FAQs

what to expect

A typical session lasts about two hours in a peaceful woodland setting. Moving at a relaxed pace, you’ll be guided through gentle invitations to notice and engage with the natural world around you. Unlike a hike or nature walk, Forest Therapy isn’t about reaching a destination—it’s about being present and fully absorbing your surroundings. You’ll pause often for sit spots, guided meditations, and sensory invitations that help attune you to the sights, sounds, and textures of the forest. There may be opportunities for gentle movement and playful exploration, depending on the group and season. Each session follows a clear, nature-inspired structure, creating a fresh and meaningful experience every time. We close with a tea ceremony and optional sharing circle—a quiet moment to reflect, connect with others, and simply be, with no pressure to speak.

what to bring

Dress for the weather (layers are helpful), and wear comfortable shoes for uneven ground. A waterproof layer and something to sit on can be useful. Bring water if needed — and yourself, just as you are.

accessibility

Sessions are tailored to be as inclusive as possible. If you have access needs, mobility considerations, or sensory sensitivities, please get in touch in advance — I’ll work with you to find a suitable location and adapt the session accordingly.

is it therapy?

No — while Forest Therapy can be deeply therapeutic, it is not counselling, clinical therapy, or mental health treatment. It’s a guided wellbeing practice. That said, I bring experience as an Occupational Therapist and Mental Health Practitioner, and always hold space with care and trauma-awareness. Nature often helps us slow down and notice what we’re feeling. There’s space for whatever comes up, and you’ll be supported with care and without judgment. You’re always free to take a moment for yourself, speak privately, or simply be held by the quiet of the woods.

do i need to be “outdoorsy” to take part?

Not at all. Forest Therapy is designed for everyone — not just hikers or nature experts. You don’t need any special gear or knowledge. Just come as you are, with curiosity and comfortable clothing for the weather.

What if it rains?

We continue unless conditions are unsafe. Rain can add a beautiful element to the experience — but I’ll keep an eye on forecasts and contact you if we need to reschedule. Always bring a waterproof layer, just in case!

Can i come alone?

Absolutely. Many people value the quiet and depth of a one-to-one or small private session. Whether you join a group or book a private experience, there’s never any pressure to talk or participate in a certain way. You’re equally welcome if you’re seeking solitude—or hoping to connect with others in a gentle, supportive space.

a note on safety

Your safety and wellbeing are a priority in every session. All activities are low-risk, and you’re never asked to do anything beyond your comfort. Sessions take place in well-chosen woodland areas with clear boundaries and regular check-ins. I’m fully trained in Outdoor First Aid and carry a first aid kit at all times. Risk assessments are in place, and care is taken to adapt to the needs of each group or individual.

Can schools, services, charities & other organisations take part

Definitely. We offer sessions for schools, community groups, and support services. These can be tailored for wellbeing, nurture, or SEND support—delivered in-school or off-site in woodland settings.
